Detail Information

Custom Men's 400 GSM Heavyweight Boxy Crew Neck Sweatshirt

A heavyweight men's crew neck sweatshirt built on a boxy, oversized block. The body is intentionally wide through the chest with dropped shoulders, and the front is kept completely clean so that the fabric and the silhouette do the work. A tonal embroidered logo sits on the chest, and ribbed cuffs meet a wide ribbed hem band that holds the shape of the body.

The reference build is a 400 GSM sweat knit in 80% organic cotton and 20% recycled polyester, shown in cocoa brown. The fabric reads dense and structured rather than soft and collapsing, which is what gives the boxy block its architectural look.

  • 400 GSM heavyweight sweat knit with a dense, structured hand feel (reference specification)
  • Boxy oversized fit with dropped shoulders
  • Clean front panel for a minimal, fabric-led look
  • Ribbed crew neck, ribbed cuffs and a wide ribbed hem band
  • Tonal chest embroidery for low-noise branding

How this style is developed

OEM

Built to your tech pack

the buyer's tech pack, measurements and branding specification drive pattern work, fabric booking and trims.

ODM

Start from the existing block

the existing 400 GSM boxy crew block can be extended into a full heavyweight range, including matching bottoms, hooded styles and seasonal colourways.

Private label

Your branding, your labels

buyer branding by embroidery, silicone or heat application at the chest, sleeve or hem, supported by woven labels, size labels, care labels and hangtags produced to the buyer's artwork.

Sample development and bulk planning

What the first sample round confirms

The first sample round should confirm the measured GSM and hand feel against the buyer's target, shrinkage and torque behaviour after wash for a heavyweight knit, dimmed or non-dimmed appearance of the recycled-content yarn, the exact chest logo position and stitch or application method, and the rib height of the neck, cuffs and hem band. Where the buyer is developing a sweat set, the sweatshirt and the matching bottoms should be sampled from the same dye lot and the same fabric lot so that the colour and the weight match in the finished set.

Engineered around the fabric, not around a print

At 400 GSM the garment behaves differently from a standard midweight sweat. The main development questions are the balance between weight and drape, and how the density behaves through the shoulder and hem. A heavier knit holds the dropped shoulder line cleanly, but it also changes panel consumption and makes rib tie-off and hem band width more visible, so those measurements need to be settled early. The second area is branding. Tonal embroidery on a dense heavyweight knit needs a suitable backing and a stitch density that does not pull the surface, which is why a silicone or heat-applied alternative is often the better route when a buyer wants a raised, clearly visible logo without altering the hand of the fabric around it. Third is consistency. For a boxy oversized silhouette, grading matters more than in a fitted block: small changes in body width, shoulder drop and hem band width change the whole read of the garment. Pattern work should be checked across the full size run rather than on the base size alone.

Best for

Streetwear and lifestyle labels building a heavyweight core sweat, activewear brands that want an oversized crew neck with a real 400 GSM hand feel, and private label programmes developing matched sweat sets for a season.

Private label development notes

  • Weight is the sell point: confirm the measured GSM before quoting so the quoted price and the sample match.
  • Because the front is clean, branding choice carries the whole identity of the page - embroidery, silicone or heat application each change the read of the garment.
  • Rib height and hem band width are the main levers for making the boxy block look more or less premium.
  • For matched sets, keep the sweatshirt and the bottoms on the same fabric lot and dye lot.
  • Custom GSM, colourways and fit can be planned per collection so one heavyweight block serves several price tiers.

Questions buyers ask before sampling

Can the construction be changed for our own design?

Yes. The pattern block, trims and branding method are all buyer-specifiable, and the approved content above lists the development options available for this style.

What is the minimum order quantity?

Depends on fabric, color, size range, customization and order structure.

How is sampling and bulk production scheduled?

Sample development depends on fabric availability, pattern work, branding method, fit adjustment and revision rounds. Bulk production is planned after sample approval and confirmation of fabric, trims, measurements, packaging and QC requirements.
